In the past we’ve often seen some unnecessary mistakes on websites and online-shops, which are easily preventable. With this 6 simple steps we found out that a website can perform a lot better and gain more attention.

1. Mobile Optimization

57% of HILFMA-users use their smartphone to access the website. The percentage of users who access via desktop is 41.5%. This is no accident and no exception. More and more users access a website using their smartphone. It’s faster, easier and on the go. Therefore, it is very important to design your website for mobile optimization. If users come to your website via smartphone and it is not optimized for mobile use, they will have to start zooming in order to read and see the text and content. And they won’t, because before they start zooming, they’ll be leaving your website again.

You should prevent this loss of customers by making sure that your website is designed to be mobile from the start. Of course, you can also adapt it afterwards, but the earlier, the better. This way, fewer users jump off and you make them feel good because they have had a good experience with your website.

2. Tracking & Analysis

To have a better understanding of your customers and users, it is important to know from where and how they get to your website. How well does the link on your Facebook page work? How often is the newsletter button clicked? Is the About Us page visited often enough?

In order to improve your marketing, it is essential to know what your users are doing. Analysis tools can help you enormously by viewing, observing and comparing KPIs (key perfomance indicators) on their dashboard. The analysis tool is easily integrated into the code of your website and voilá, you already understand your customers better.

3. Less is more

Long texts are tiring. Make sure that you convey your message in short and clear sentences. Often less is simply more. The same applies to images, videos, colors, links and buttons. Your users and customers will thank you for your simple and pleasant design.

4. Legibility

Light text on bright pictures: NO!

Dark text on dark pictures: NO!

Create contrast: YES!

Font size large enough: ABSOLUTELY!

These are just a few points to keep in mind. Many website operators underestimate the proportion of people who have weak eyes. Therefore, you should always keep in mind that your website should be readable from front to back. The font size must be large enough, the color of the text must be in the foreground so that the text is legible. If you work with pictures and videos, then pay attention to the right contrast here.

5. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

New customers often come by chance. It is therefore important to be easily found. Especially if someone is looking for your industry, your expertise or something familiar, you should be one of the top hits in the search engines.

So keep in mind to also bring a search engine optimization to your website so that it’s findable and the number of new customers increases.

6. Social Media Integration

In addition to your website, you may also have an appearance on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or other social networks? Then you should definitely include them in your website. It is enough if you simply insert the world-famous logos of these social networks in the footer of you website.

You link these logos directly to your respective appearances in these networks. Ideally, you will then track these linked logos using an analysis tool and gain insights into how interesting, for example, the social networks are for your website visitors.
